FDA Updates E. coli Advisory, Focus on Onion Supplier

Taco Bell, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and KFC also pull potentially contaminated onions from their menus after McDonald’s outbreak.

The Food and Drug Administration has updated its E. coli advisory as the suspected source of contamination appears to have been Taylor Farms.

As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues its investigation, other fast-food chains have removed onions from certain restaurant locations. Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Kentucky Fried Chicken are among the restaurants that have pulled onions from their offerings in certain regions.

The outbreak, first traced to McDonald’s quarter pounders, has caused U.S. Foods, a distributor of the supplier, to issue a recall on four onion products. While illness has been reported in 10 states, Colorado and Nebraska experienced the greatest number of reports.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Cohen as she oversees the investigations of the CDC into foodborne illness.
  • For FDA Commissioner Califf as his agency supports public health and awareness.
